As people whose work is influenced by federal education policy, we certainly find this moment full of unknowns. But as an organization focused far more on school and district practice, we can ground ourselves in the shared values — outstanding, supportive learning experiences for all kids in all communities — that have focused our work for decades.
At CEI, this means doubling down on what we know works: hyper-local practices grounded in local communities. While red and blue maps make for tempting headlines, we know that no community, state, or organization is a monolith. Each is rich with its own opportunities, stories, and strengths, and it is this complexity that makes public education such a critical cornerstone of our democracy. In a world where very little seems “nonpartisan,” I’m reminded of the importance of public school educators who lead in pluralistic times, showing up with love for every kid, striving for equitable educational experiences and outcomes. CEI will continue to support Colorado communities in moving toward a future where all kids experience belonging, hope, and purpose.
While national headlines have captured the share of the American imagination for the last few weeks, several Colorado school districts celebrated successful ballot measures this month. Our November newsletter spotlights the leadership, vision, and partnership that led to the passage of an important bond and mill in Mesa County Valley School District 51 (D51). D51’s work is a reminder about the power of investing in public trust in education to develop thriving young people and a flourishing community.
